Your fearless tippler mauling Charles Pacaud

We have just about completed delivering ‘The Lost Wine’, the delightful, ready-to-drink 2006 Les Terrasses du Larzac from Domaine La Croix Chaptal and as a result have had heard an oft repeated lament, “Why didn’t I order more?”
You will recall that Charles Pacaud, artisan vigneron and owner of Domaine La Croix Chaptal had ‘lost track’ of 120 cases of this wine and we latched onto it for the wine club. It sold quickly and is currently being enjoyed by our Members throughout Ontario.
I was recently speaking with Charles on another matter and thought to ask if he had any more of the lost wine left. It turns out that he had some, but it had not been cleared for the export market! “How hard would it be to get the authorities to give it their blessing for your marvellous clients in Ontario,” I inquired. To make a long story slight less monotonous, Charles obtained the necessary approval. As a result, for you wanting more and those who missed it, we are delighted to bring back the lost wine at the original price of only $21 the bottle.
A Little Background
Charles Pacaud makes very good, very serious wines from the best part of the AOC Côteaux du Languedoc – the sub appellation known as Les Terrasses du Larzac. His wines regularly appear in the ‘Wine Spectator’, receiving high eighty and ninety point ratings. See our original Newsletter for more information about Charles and his winery.
Enjoy the Languedoc, from Andrew Jefford: Decanter January 2009 (pg 21)
"...Geologically, the Languedoc hills are a synopsis of everything which makes France so propitious for winegrowing... Surely in any other country, those Languedoc hills would have been a star region; their misfortune was to find themselves sharing a nation with Champagne, Bordeaux, Burgundy, the Loire and the Rhône. And, too far from Paris. But where is the best spot in the Languedoc? My theory is that Terrasses du Larzac is the greatest spot in the Languedoc... Stone and slopes alone don't make for great wine - as much of Provence proves - but when skilled winegrowers grapple intelligently and sensitively with nature here, the results seem to me to have the same aromatic, textural potential as the best of the Rhône..."
2006 was a very good year in the Languedoc. This wine comes in convenient six-bottle cases. We will be taking your orders to the LCBO next Friday, June 22nd.
2006 Les Terrasses du Larzac - 13.0% Alc./Vol. $21 per bottle/$126 per case of six
Like all of Charles' wines, the grapes for Les Terrasses du Larzac are hand picked and hand sorted. The wine is made from 45% Grenache, 45% Carignan and the rest Syrah with yields between 35 and 40 hectolitres per hectare. It underwent a short aging period on oak. A deep ruby in colour, this is a full and fruity wine with aromas of ripe cherries, plums and mocha with a touch of exotic spice. Drinking beautifully right now (but it will keep for a couple more years), this little treasure will go well with both white and red meats. Order some of Charles’ lost wine now. You’ll be thrilled you did.
