CHAMPAGNE FORGET-BRIMONT … A MOST STRATEGIC CHOICE!!

MAY 1, 2019

Enfin! Our friends at the LCBO have finally managed to list our two popular Champagne Forget-Brimont fizzes by the bottle on ‘LCBO.com’. It took many, many requests and finally the intervention of an LCBO executive to make it happen. But, they finally did it. So, if you’d like a bottle or two of these delicious wines, you can order now.

Cheers!  Jim

When we issued the following Bulletin last week announcing the return of Champagne Forget-Brimont’s elixirs, the wines were properly listed on LCBO.com, right down to being available for purchase by the single bottle. Then, almost immediately after issuing the Bulletin, for some unfathomable reason, the LCBO took the wines off the market! They are now back, but only in six-bottle cases. So, if you want multiples of six bottles, you can order them now. Sooner or later they will be available by the single bottle once again. I will notify you as soon as this wondrous event occurs. Many thanks for your patience.

Cheers!   Jim

“Champagne is one of the elegant extras in life.” –Charles Dickens

Our next shipment of Champagne Forget-Brimont Brut 1er Cru and Rosé Brut 1er Cru has just been listed at LCBO.com and, great news, their prices have hardly risen at all. The Brut 1er Cru is just $47.25 the bottle and the Rosé Brut 1er Cru but $52.45. Not bad for a couple of the elegant luxuries in life, eh Mr. Dickens?

If you would like me to order for you, send me an email telling me what you would like and I’ll be pleased to order it from the LCBO for you. Just let me know if you want it delivered to your door by Canada Post ($12) or sent at no cost to your preferred LCBO store (please tell me which one that is). Then send us a cheque or an electronic funds transfer (I’ll confirm the amount after ordering).

Brut 1er Cru – 12.0% Alc./Vol. LCBO Product # 926617 $47.25 the bottle

ss.png This is a great wine at a great price. The grape composition is 40% Pinot Noir, 40% Pinot Meunier and 20% Chardonnay (all Premier and Grand Cru). A pale golden colour with a delicate nose of fresh green apples, white flowers and hazelnuts, it has a very fresh, deep structure and is well-balanced with good length. What a great way to start any party and also a wonderful accompaniment for white meats.

Here’s what Alison Napjus says about it in the December 31, 2012 edition of the ‘Wine Spectator’ – “Firm and focused by racy acidity, this is lightly chalky in texture, offering tightly knit flavors of ripe Gala apple, anise, black currant candy, fresh ginger and biscuit. Fine balance. Drink now through 2018. 16,500 cases made. $63 (wow, note the price!!) – 91/100”. Robert Parker rated it a 90!

And, it costs much less than you would pay for regular mass-marketed Champagne. Here are some examples of the prices of ordinary Champagne currently available at the LCBO (not a 1er Cru in the bunch, let alone one with Grand Cru juice as well):

Piper Heidsieck Brut $60.00
Möet & Chandon Brut Imperial $67.75
Mumm Cordon Rouge Brut $62.95
Veuve Clicquot Brut $72.90

Rosé Brut 1er Cru - 12.0% Alc./Vol. LCBO Product # 926633        Just $52.45 the bottle

ss.png This is the Champagne for those most festive occasions. It is also an ideal apéritif. Its rose colour comes from adding a touch of red wine from Brouzy to the Forget-Brimont reserve cuvée. The grape composition is 40% Pinot Noir, 40% Pinot Meunier and 20% Chardonnay (Premier and Grand Cru grapes only!). In the glass, the beautiful light salmon colour provides an ideal backdrop for its steady stream of tiny bubbles.

Alison Napjus has this to say about it in the November 15, 2012 edition of the ‘Wine Spectator’ – “This offers lovely balance, a finely detailed texture and delicate acidity that focuses the subtle flavors of ripe plum, wild strawberries, and melon fruit. A hint of almond-tinged financier and mineral notes add complexity. Drink now through 2018. 5,000 cases made. $67 (note, our price is $20 less!!) - 91/100

Know anyone who would like some elegant extras in life (or who would simply love a great bottle of bubbly)? If so, please let them know about these.

Many thanks and cheers!
