Arthur Sellers Bulletin Archive
We will be bringing your orders for the latest offering of superb wines from Domaine La Croix Chaptal to the LCBO on Friday, June 17th. Don’t miss this opportunity to acquire some stellar wines from this highly regarded producer. And, we have been able to secure a few more bottles of the marvellous 2005 Cuvée Charles for you (we have sold over 3,000 bottles of it so far!).
Charles Pacaud makes very good, very serious wines from the best part of the AOC Côteaux du Languedoc - Les Terrasses du Larzac. His wines regularly appear in the ‘Wine Spectator’, receiving high eighties and nineties ratings. I heartily endorse each of the ones we currently have on offer. Have no doubt that I will be ordering some for Arthur’s Cellar.
Enjoy the Languedoc, from Andrew Jefford: Decanter January 2009 (pg 21) "...Geologically, the Languedoc hills are a synopsis of everything which makes France so propitious for winegrowing... Surely in any other country, those Languedoc hills would have been a star region; their misfortune was to find themselves sharing a nation with Champagne, Bordeaux, Burgundy, the Loire and the Rhône. And too far from Paris.
But where is the best spot in the Languedoc? My theory is that Terrasses du Larzac is the greatest spot in the Languedoc... Stone and slopes alone don't make for great wine - as much of Provence proves - but when skilled winegrowers grapple intelligently and sensitively with nature here, the results seem to me to have the same aromatic, textural potential as the best of the Rhône..."
You can read all about Charles and his winery in the October 2006 edition of ‘Selections’ or visit his website. His wines come in convenient six-bottle cases. These are all terrific and each comes from an excellent vintage. We will be taking your orders to the LCBO on Friday, June 17th.
2005 “Cuvée Charles” Rouge - 13.5% Alc./Vol. $29 per bottle/$174 per case of six This fully mature wine has been a big hit as a ‘premium house selection’ at Le Sélect Bistro in Toronto over the past year or so (they still have some left if you would like to sample it before ordering). Made from equal parts Syrah, Carignan and Grenache, it is unfiltered and rested in oak barrels for over a year. The yield from old vines is only 32 hectolitres per hectare. It is deep ruby with brown glints and offers up complex aromas of raspberries, black berries, vanilla, old leather and garrigue. It is very elegant, beautifully balanced and round with complex but gentle tannins and a pleasing, long aftertaste. It is perfect with charcouterie, grilled meats or roasts. ‘1er Grand Vin’ and given five stars by Guide Dussert-Gerbert; the Wine Spectator rates it 90/100. Grab one of the last bottles of this sensational wine.
Note: all prices include a $1.00 per bottle handling fee.
Please pass this bulletin on to others you think might like to take advantage of Charles’ great wines.
Soon to Emerge from Arthur’s Cellar
Next will be the fan-pleasing wines from Domaine Chabrier Fils including the ever popular, marvellous white with the impossible name - Duché d’Uzès “La Garrigue d’Aureillac” Blanc from the splendid 2009 vintage. Then, it being springtime, one’s thoughts turn to robins … Château Robin that is, the terrific, well-priced Bordeaux from the Côtes de Castillon.
Many thanks and cheers,
Jim and Hélène
