Greetings from sunny Provence, at least up until today. As you can see from Hélène’s latest posts, all is well in this marvellous part of the world and I feel obligated to report that the wine is tasting mighty good. It looks like we have found a super new Rosé for you from Côtes de Provence – details to come.
If you use Facebook, you can follow Hélène's posts as she issues them at www.facebook.com/ofranceexperiences.
Cheers,
Jim and Hélène
We ended the day in old bauxite quarries where a fabulous display of Painters of the Mediterranean was projected on the walls and floor. You can get an idea of the scale by looking at the people milling about. Awesome show with amazing surround sound.
Today, we were in Aix-en-Provence. This is a picture taken at the flower market.
Every evening before dinner, we gather for aperitifs (nibbles and wine) around the pool or on one of the terraces. Here is a typical platter prepared by Djamila, our chef..
Getting ready to photograph the Pont du Gard, a 2000 year old aqueduct - and a Unesco World Heritage site. It was almost deserted (we got there early) and SO beautiful.
A fabulous Provençal lunch under the arbour. This is at Auberge de la Loube, nestled deep in the Luberon mountains.
Here are our friends from Halfmoon Bay in Beautiful British Columbia, pontificating from their balcony in Beautiful Provence!
One of the many water wheels at Isle-sur-la-Sorgue where we always go for the Sunday market.
Tonight was gigot de sept heures (lamb cooked for 7 hours) night. Accompanied by the best Châteauneuf du Pape wines of course.
This is Djamila, our chef, preparing to plate the main course, always made from fresh, local organic ingredients.
On the Pont du Gard - love these group shots!
This is Monsieur Lepori, owner of Auberge de la Loube. He has the finest American (!) carriage collections in France, if not Europe, and loves showing them to our guests..
Here we are cruising on the Mediterranean towards the famous cliffs of Cassis. The stone from Cassis was used, among other projects, in the construction of the Suez Canal as well as in the base for the Statue of Liberty.
I thought this display at the market was lovely. The morning light was shining through the coloured bottles and I got all poetic...
A VERY LARGE bag of lavender!
Another great view over the Luberon Valley. This was taken from a window at the château this morning.
