The Comforts of Home in Paris

A little while ago we told you about the beautiful apartment our great friends Mimi and Diran Loris were creating in Paris. We promised to let you know when it was finished and ready to be rented. Well … the time has arrived and as you can see from these pictures and the many more at their ParisCheri (www.parischeri-apartment.com) website, it is quite spectacular.

Diran is an award-winning architect and Mimi has been involved in many aspects of Fine Arts all her life. It shows - the apartment is stunning. It is located in the vibrant Quartier Montorgueil, a mostly pedestrian area with tons of history, wonderful street markets, boutiques and delightful restaurants. And, best of all, you can walk everywhere (Notre Dame is only 15 minutes away)! It is also within strolling distance of the Metro and the RER (rail) line that goes directly to Charles de Gaulle Airport.

The apartment is equipped with everything you might need and more. It has two queen bedrooms and two full bathrooms, a fully equipped, modern kitchen, dining area and beautifully appointed living room. Of course it has a flat screen cable TV, DVD player, Wi-Fi Internet access, a sound system with CD player and MP3 and USB plugs and a telephone system that permits free international calling to thirty countries including Canada and the US. Best of all, Mimi and Diran, like Arthur’s Cellar Wine Club and O! FRANCE, offer you great personalised service – they are a phone call away should you need any assistance or have any questions during your stay. You can ask them questions or make reservations through their website.

Do pass this on to your traveling friends.

Kudus for Alex Gambal’s 2006 Grand Crus

Bruce Sanderson said this about Alex’s 2006 Corton-Charlemagne - “Chuck” (that we featured a couple of times over the last year) in the June 30, 2009 edition of the Wine Spectator: “Rich and polished, with peach and pear notes underscored by citrus and butterscotch. This is powerful, even showing a touch of heat now on the finish. There’s excellent length, with lingering mineral and spice. Best from 2010 through 2020. 100 cases made. Score: 92/100.”

And Mr. Sanderson commented on the 2006 Clos Vougeot (also distributed over the past year) in the May 31, 2009 edition of the Wine Spectator: “A round, fruity style, but there is no shortage of grip. Black cherry and black currant flavours set the pace, before fine-grained tannins, spice and mineral flavours enter the mix. Fine length. Best from 2011 to 2022. 125 cases made. Score: 93/100.”

Honours for Château Rives-Blanques

The glorious white wines (including the lovely Blanquette de Limoux) from Château Rives-Blanques continue to rake in the awards from top critics from around the world. As Caryl Panman (owner along with her husband Jan) said in a recent issue of her ‘Vine Lines’ publication: “France's first and foremost wine publication, La Revue du Vin de France released its verdict on the 2008 harvest today in the June issue, and finds us on our knees in gratitude. Limoux is the best white wine region of the Languedoc, they say, and the Rives-Blanques Mauzac CUVÉE OCCITANIA is the best white wine of Limoux.”

Caryl further reported: “This month the 2008 CHARDONNAY DU DOMAINE was commended by the International Wine Challenge, a nice little medal to add to its Silver from the Great Wines of Languedoc Roussillon; while the ‘big' chardonnay, the CUVÉE DE L'ODYSSÉE, commended by Decanter, won Silver medals from the Chardonnay du Monde, the Concours Mondiale de Bruxelles, and the Independent Winegrowers of France, to add to its Bronze from the Great Wines of France.”

We will be offering both these wines and several others from the Rives-Blanques’ line up a little later this summer.

O!France

Two great bedrooms remain available for Hélène’s up close and personal tour of the paradise that is Provence for the week of September 5th to 12th. Read all the delicious details at the O!France website.

That’s it for now. We hope you are enjoying the summer.

Cheers,

Jim and Hélène
